Hello Happy Gardeners,
We kicked off our Spring shipping season about a week ago and we expect the next few weeks to really get busy!  Some news to relay...Cannas are in VERY short supply this year due to an extremely bad growing season for our suppliers.  If you wanted to order Cannas for your garden this year, do so as soon as possible...we've already sold out on a number of varieties!  We have a great special on Daylilies running for the next two weeks...50% off on select varietiesDon't miss out on this early season special!  Also, Hymenocallis Festalis (Peruvian Daffodils) are on sale as well!  We've announced our photo contest winners for February and March and read on to learn more about Daylilies, one of the must-have perennials in our catalog!

**  We would love to hear our reader's thoughts about our newsletter...what you would be interested in reading about and any suggestions you may have for future issues and offers.  Please send your comments to info@touchofnature.com and let us know how we are doing!

Daylilies (Hemerocallis)
We're kicking off a special on Daylilies for this newsletter (50% off on select varieties!), so we thought we'd give you some more information about these fool-proof perennials.  They are native to east Asia and are grown for their showy, fragrant flowers which come in a wide range of colors.  Most individual blooms last only for a day (hence, the name Daylily), but they make up for that with numerous flowers on strong stems and tall, grassy foliage.  Many varieties continue blooming from summer through fall.  The size of the flowers themselves also vary from 3 inches in diameter to over 6 inches in diameter and heights ranging from 16 inches to 36 inches.  Daylily breeders around the world enjoy creating new varieties to enhance color, texture and size of the blooms.  Thanks to their efforts, we are able to add elegance and beauty to our gardens with a very low-maintenance perennial.

Growing information: You can grow Daylilies as part of a border, among shrubs to add wonderful color or naturalize in woodland areas.  Miniature varieties also work well in containers on your patio or deck.  You should plant 1 division per square foot and cover with 3 inches of soil in a sunny to partly shady location in your garden.  You need to divide the clumps every 3 to four years and watch out for slugs and snails in early Spring!
